Make Poverty History

Economic Justice and the YMCA

In 2002 the 15th World Council of YMCAs passed a resolution calling for trade justice. The Resolution recognised that "current trade structures disadvantage poor people with the result that billions are being held in poverty, denying them basic human rights and hope for the future."

YMCAs are promoting trade justice in a variety of ways such as national and international campaigns, developing community initiatives for alternatives to globalisation and educating members and communities on the issue.

The World Alliance of YMCAs is a member of the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance which promotes trade justice.
