Earthquake in Japan
Greetings from Japan.
This is Sayuri Ichiki staff of the National Council of YMCAs of Japan.
Thank you very much for your prayer and solidarity.
Mr. Kazuki Yamane and Mr. Hisao Mitsunaga NCY staffs have been working for evacuees at Shelters.
We really thank your support and solidarity.
As you may be aware, there has been another strong earthquake with 7.4 magnitude in Kumamoto prefacture, Japan on Saturday. It was known more powerful than the first big one on 14th April. The second one reportedly damaged a wide range of areas in the region, not only hitting the people in the affected area, but also buildings, architectures, roads and bridges, and even collapsed mountains, banks of rivers, dams and farms.
In the face of the devastating situation, Mr. Shigeru Shimada, NGS of Japan YMCA, informed me that Japan YMCA decided to start fundraising for relief works and for supporting the repairment of the several buildings of Kumamoto YMCA which were seriously damaged. Attached please find his report and appeal letter.
Therefore, I am now appealing to all the national movements, in the spirit of solidarity, to make concerted efforts in fund-raising in support of Japan YMCA’s relief work and repairment of the damaged buildings of Kumamoto YMCA.
Your prayers and prompt actions are deeply appreciated.
In solidarity with Japan YMCA,
Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs
Dear Nam-san, Boon-chin-san, Johan-san,
Thank you for your support. As you may know, there was another strong earthquake yesterday. It was more powerful than the first big one.
So we decided fundraising for relief works and Kumamoto YMCA.
Especially we expect foreign support to Kumamoto YMCA to repair serious damage on their several building.
I appreciate your back up very much.
Thank you very much for your prayer and solidarity. There were more than 400 times of earthquakes since April 14 in Kumamoto. More than 190,000 people are staying at shelters and many of them didn’t sleep for frequent quakes and fear. At the first strong earthquake I had informed the damage was limited in the particular area. However it was not the main earthquake. There occurred another more powerful earthquake on early morning on April 16 and many powerful earthquakes hit people, buildings, architectures, roads and bridges, and collapsed mountains, banks of rivers, dam and farms. Now devastated area became widespread, we need to integrate our capacity to release suffering people as all Japan YMCAs. Kumamoto YMCA is one of the great YMCAs in Japan. It has 14 branches and runs 3 public sport centers. Especially two of the sport centers are located in the epicenter of the powerful earthquake and used by more than 600 evacuees as temporary shelters. A staff dispatched by Osaka YMCA is instructing stress release exercise to senior citizens at the Mashiki-Machi gym.
We try to make different from the other public shelters.
We decided to start fundraising for our relief work and for Kumamoto YMCA that buildings of many centers are damaged.
I really appreciate your support and solidarity.
The National Council of YMCAs of Japan,
Dear Brothers and Sisters of YMCA Family and JCCCNC,
As you have already known there have been big earthquakes since 21:26 April 14. in Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyusyu District, South of Japan.
Now 9 people were reported to be killed and about 1000 people were injured. The damage of the earthquake has been limited in the particular town, called Mashiki-machi, west area from Kumamoto City.
There is the Gym and Sport Park administrated by Kumamoto YMCA in Mashiki-machi. Kumamoto YMCA has been consigned by the city to manage the park. Now the gym has been used for evacuation by citizens.
Kumamoto YMCA is one of the great YMCAs in Japan. It has 18 centers and some of the buildings are damaged. Now Kumamoto YMCA are researching their facilities. So far no staff have been reported to be suffered.
Mr. Kazuki Yamane and Mr. Hisao Mitsunaga left for Kumamoto to support and coordinate their relief management from the National Council of YMCAs of Japan.
The general secretaries of related local YMCAs will have a Hangout meeting at 10:00 a.m. from now to discuss and decide our first faze of our disaster management and relief policy.
When we decide our policy and plan, we will appeal to the international support.
Please keep us and specially victims and suffering people in your prayer.
Thank you very much for your solidarity.
