Date: 11 August 2016

Geelong born Judo champion Jake Bensted will get his chance at Olympic glory in Rio. With multiple Australian and Oceania Championships to his name, along with a Commonwealth Games medal, the 23 year old Jake, nicknamed “the snake”, currently trains at Club Judo and Geelong YMCA Judo Club.

The 73kg fighter won his first Oceania title in 2013, finished second in 2014 before being selected for his Commonwealth Games debut later that year. Bensted made the semi-finals before going down in a close fight with eventual gold medallist Danny Williams of England. He bounced back to finish with the bronze medal following a win over Scotland’s Patrick Dawson.
