Abraham Martinez, 1st participant of the new World Alliance staff placement programme

Date: 13 May 2013

Abraham Martinez (in the photo holding the ‘Paris Basis’) , 1st participant of the new World Alliance staff placement programme, completed his three month experience today.  Thanks to the generous support of the YMCA of Mexico, Abraham came to the World Alliance office on February 17th to work on several projects – research on youth employment, data gathering, and report preparation, communications and support for the process of registration of the Change Agents, and completion of the certificates for the World Challenge.

He said the experience took him away from his daily reality in Mexico to experience new realities of being part of the World Alliance daily life – of feeling and being part of the global movement. I met some of the legends of the World Alliance, he said. As he reflected on his experience, he talked about the projects he worked on and the daily interaction with the staff team as being part of the memories he will take home with him.   We were delighted to have Abraham work with us during this time. He is an extremely talented professional who contributed on key projects of the NEW WAY strategy. During his tenure Abraham participated in the Executive Committee meeting in Jericho in April. He observed that he was very impressed by the work of the vocational training center and the commitment of the East Jerusalem YMCA to young people. We thank him and we will miss him.

The staff placement programme is a unique opportunity for national or local YMCAS to send a professional staff to work at the World Alliance of a three month period. The next staff placement will be Matheus Medeiros who comes from the YMCA of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
