Bring Back Our Girls!

Date: 15 July 2014

80 days since the abduction of 276 school girls in Chibok, Borno State, Nigeria by Boko Haram – the fundamentalist terrorist group, allegedly protesting Western education and its influences. 80 days too many.

In solidarity with the YMCA of Nigeria, the global movement of YMCAs join in prayer with Nigerian families whose girls’ remains away from the warmth of their homes and comforting blanket of Love.

As a global movement, supported by members in 119 countries, we condemn the attacks by Boko Haram on innocent children. We see this as an assault of the rights of girls to access education. We see this as a violation of Godly principle  that every human life is to be valued. We demand action by the Nigeria Government, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU) and the UN agencies to act swiftly to Bring Back Our Girls.

On this day, …. we demand the unconditional release of the all the girls; to return to their families, and hope that they eventually heal from this tragic event in their young lives; are able to believe in freedom, and love and the possibility of a great African future; and see good in the World again.
