Change Agents Cohort 5: Now accepting applications

Date: 20 December 2022

The Change Agents programme is back!

Applications are being accepted through 26 February 2023 for the programme, which will restart in 2023. In its fifth cohort, Change Agents seeks to engage 100 young leaders worldwide to be changemakers within the YMCA and our communities. YMCA Change Agents participate in innovative and life-changing experiences including online and in-person training, mentoring and local project development. They gain skills to help transform their YMCA and community and build connections to an international network of young leaders.

“I wish all will be able to join us and continue investing in our leaders of tomorrow”, said World YMCA Secretary General Carlos Sanvee.

By the numbers

Since 2013 the Change Agents programme has been investing in young people. For example:

  • In the past 10 years, there have been 4 cohorts that have graduated with 800 leaders from around the globe.
  • The average programme engagement is 18-24 months.
  • Currently, 6 World YMCA Executive Committee members are programme alumni, with many more serving YMCAs at all levels.

Programme details

The 2023 Change Agents programme provides participants with practical, hands-on tools, skills, models and case studies to create change. The programme will incorporate content across four main modules:

  • Innovating through human-centred design
  •  Building partnerships
  • Building movements
  • Influencing change

The programme integrates the Co-Labs methodology, enabling participants to dive deep into a chosen YMCA Vision 2030 goal. Participants used this methodology at the 20th World Council in Aarhus, Denmark, to assist in developing Vision 2030 goals.

Requirements

Applicants must be between ages 18-30 and have a minimum of three years of engagement as a YMCA staff member or volunteer. Young people should also have a strong command of English and a basic understanding of YMCA governance. See the PDF for a complete list of requirements.

Apply by 26 February 2023. Change Agents will meet in March via a virtual opening gathering, and the programme runs from March through December 2023. Project implementation takes place in the first half of 2024, and Change Agents will meet in July 2024 for an in-person gathering, specifics to be determined.
