Dear Friends,
This is an invitation for your young people to join the YMCA at COP 21-Paris: the most significant world environment event. From November30 to December 12, 2015, world leaders will meet in Paris, France, for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations. The goal is to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C. The conference is expected to attract close to 50,000 participants, including 25,000 official delegates from government, intergovernmental organisations, UN agencies, NGOs and civil society. The World YMCA, in close cooperation with YMCA France, is inviting national YMCA movements and young leaders interested in Climate Change and other environmental issues to come together in Paris for this occasion. The YMCA has taken part in these meetings since 2011 and our commitment is to continue to advocate for the voices of young people to be heard where it counts. All YMCA Participants will be part of “Camp Climate” a space organized by the World YMCA for capacity building, coordinated advocacy efforts, networking and visibility in parallel with the COP 21 events. A variety of programmes will take place and participants will be interacting with young advocates from all over the world, local universities, politicians and more. Participants will have freedom to manage their own agenda and select events organized inside Camp Climate and the many options provided by civil society organisations. 50,000 people will attend the events in Paris and we project a YMCA delegation of 100 young people.
