YMCA Denmark

Date of foundation of the YMCA:

1878

YMCA Denmark began in 1878 in Copenhagen as a Bible reading fellowship. The Danish National Committee was formed in 1884, and became a member of the World Alliance of YMCAs in 1898. In 1906, an independent National Joint Board of the YMCA and YWCA Denmark was formed. They merged to form a joint movement in 1976. Today, the joint movement offers activities to children and young people up to 30 years old, with 9,000 members across 100 local associations. The organizational structure reflects the nature of its activities and the five national committees: Global communities; Local activities; Festivals and Camps; Christianity; Training.
