The Christian Association of Young Men of Guatemala (ACJ) was established in 1964, focusing primarily on recreation. In 1976, the ACJ reemerged to address the challenges caused by that year’s earthquake, aiming to respond to the needs of underprivileged youth in the communities of Sakerty, Tierra Nueva, Comalapa, and Amatitlán. In 1990, they acquired the Venecia estate in San Cristóbal Verapaz, Alta Verapaz, and built a camp that serves as an educational base and recreational space for youth development. Since 1993, they have revised their mission, restructuring their actions to focus on youth leadership, volunteering, and civic participation, allowing for greater national impact. The organizational and operational structure of the YMCA of Guatemala is based on five programs: Non-Formal Education, Recreation, Volunteerism, Research, Communications.
