In 1924, a young French man, Jean Beigbeder, introduced the association as a branch of the French Protestant Mission. At the same time, he introduced the scouting movement. From 1978 to 1994, the YMCA suspended its activities. The Association is now governed by Law No. 60-133 of 3 October 1960, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in Madagascar, and was officially recognized in 1995 as an Organization for Education for Development by the Ministry of Population. In 2003, YMCA Madagascar joined the Africa Alliance of YMCAs and initiated a renewal process. YMCA Madagascar entered the Global Operating Plan Process in 2007. Today, its main programmes focus on developing young people’s capacities and empowering them through social, educational, and leadership initiatives. This mission is implemented through six strategic axes, which guide the organization’s actions and ensure alignment with the global YMCA vision: Economic Independence, Justice and Peace, Environmental Protection, Disaster Risk Reduction and Health.
