YMCA Myanmar

Date of foundation of the YMCA:

1897

The YMCA movement in Myanmar began in 1897 in Rangoon, initially serving the British communities. However, leadership and focus gradually shifted towards the local population. The Mandalay, Taunggyi, Pyinoolwin, and Myitkyina YMCA branches were established, followed by the formation of the National Council of YMCAs in 1951. Early programs included hostels, sports, recreation, and education. It became a full member of the World Alliance of YMCAs in 1953.
