YMCA Norway

Date of foundation of the YMCA:

1868

The YMCA movement in Norway began in 1868 with the formation of the first YMCA in Stavanger, followed by one in Oslo the following year. By 1895, there were 185 associations with over 11,000 members. In 1887, a separate YWCA movement was established, which later merged with the YMCA in 1894 to form the Christian Youth Association of Norway (NKUF). Over time, the movement expanded its work internationally, particularly through missionary societies and collaboration with local churches. The YMCA Scouts of Norway became autonomous in 1995, and played a role in the development of YMCA movements in Eastern and Central Europe.
