The Sierra Leone YMCA was founded by Dr. I.C. Pratt in 1912. Since 2002, the Young Men’s Christian Association in Sierra Leone has prided itself on developing diverse programmes and creating opportunities for young people to reach their full potential. This is made possible due to the diversity and inclusivity in the work of the YMCA as a voluntary membership and youth-focused institution. As a dynamic and youth friendly organisation, the YMCA operates in 23 local branches spread throughout Sierra Leone with innovative programmes to address challenges faced by young people through Mental health and psychosocial support, gender based violence, Peace promotion and conflict prevention among youths, Formal and Informal Education, access to employment, youth livelihood and enterprise development, Mobile Health Clinic, disaster risk reduction and Climate Change, Civic Engagement, youth governance and leadership, public space development and participation in decision making.
