YMCA Barbados

YMCA Barbados was formed in 1880, after an officer of the Royal Navy visited the island in 1879. During the Second World War, YMCA Barbados offered services to the British naval personnel serving in the Caribbean. Today, a notable initiative within YMCA Barbados is the “Eye on the Y” programme. Through this initiative, individuals can learn various skills and academic training including basic accounting, electrical installation, French and Spanish for beginners, hair braiding, herbal cosmetics, sign language, strategic marketing for small businesses, tiling, and several other activities. Barbados YMCA also offers programmes aimed at youth education, day care, dance clubs, and youth sports clubs which includes basketball, hockey, cricket, and tennis.
