YMCA Belize was established in 1987 after a visit from Louisiana YMCA group. It began by offering swimming programmes. After extending their recreational and sports activities, as well as their educational services, today programmes include homework assistance, High School preparatory and remedial programme, English as a second language, literacy and information technology, sports (including basketball, volleyball, tennis, and swimming), field trips, cultural days, leadership training, resume writing and job training assistant, and community engagements which includes an annual Latin dance competition.
