YMCA Brazil

YMCA Brazil was established in Rio de Janeiro in 1893. In 1901 the association in Porto Alegre was formed, and in 1902 the Sao Paulo association was formed. The Brazilian Alliance of YMCAs was formed in 1903, and Brazil became a member of the World Alliance of YMCAs in 1905. Associations were later formed in 1951 in Belo Horizonte, 1956 in Sorocaba, 1965 in Brasilia, 1966 in Londrina. In 1960, a new constitution was adopted, and the national organization has since been called the Brazilian Federation of Young Men’s Christian Associations. The main programmes of YMCA Brazil include child and adolescent work, youth work, elder work, formal and informal education, and social development.
