The ‘Young Mens Association of Rhineland-Westphalia’ was founded in Elberfeld in 1848, marking the first regional union. In 1882, the German Associations of Young Men held a significant gathering. The National Council of YMCAs in Germany evolved from this event. In 1883, the YMCA Berlin was established. Over time, the YMCA’s work expanded to include women and girls, leading to a name change in 1985 to ‘Christlicher Verein Junger Menschen’ (Christian Association of Young People). The CVJM Germany consists of 13 independent member associations and collaborates on joint tasks of national importance. It focuses on missionary work with children, adolescents, and young adults while promoting youth missionary practices and supporting the CVJM University.
