YMCA Lithuania

Date of foundation of the YMCA: 

1932, restarted in 1994.

In 1932, representatives from the World YMCA visited Lithuania for the first time. In 1994, representatives from the Swedish YMCA-YWCA also visited Lithuania. In 1995, LJKS had its first international activity, a ‘Video Training for Leaders,’ and organized its first youth camp called ‘Vasarele.’ Local groups were established in various cities between 1995 and 1996. LJKS was officially registered with the Ministry of Justice in 1996 and held its first National Assembly in Vilnius. In 1998, the Board of Lithuanian Youth Organizations (LiJOT) was formed, and LJKS joined the World Alliance of YMCAs. On 6 February 2000, LJKS was officially admitted to the European Alliance of YMCAs.
