Highlights: 85th World YMCA Executive Committee meeting in Estes Park, USA

Date: 05 April 2023

The 85th World YMCA Executive Committee met from 30 March through 1 April at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, USA.

The meeting included the Global Staff Team. It featured three days of packed sessions, primarily focusing on YMCA Vision 2030 – our North Star – and making the world a just, equitable and sustainable place.

That resonated throughout the first day of the World YMCA Executive Committee meetings. Held at the YMCA of the Rockies with the Global Staff Team, the meetings run through Saturday. Preceding this meeting was the National General Secretaries Annual Conference; read more about that meeting here.

“I am excited about how much we have to do, how important it is, and that we are approaching it together”, said Carlos Sanvee, World YMCA Secretary General of implementing and activating Vision 2030. “And we are doing it together. “

Highlights from the meeting included:

  • A look at Oxfam’s approach to partnerships with the private sector, presented online by Lies Craeynest, Head of Private Sector Engagement
  • Discussions on resource development, funding, and investment opportunities
  • Updates from Carlos Sanvee and World YMCA President Soheila Hayek
  • Devotions conducted from India from Rt. Rev. Geevarghese Mor Coorilos
  • Small-group discussions, focused on Movement strengthening and building the support structures to successfully implement YMCA Vision 2030.

“This is the first time we are united around one Vision, and there are 120 National Movements”, said Soheila Hayek. “There’s a variety in capacity and readiness, so it is a big lift – but we’re doing a very good job, and I can’t wait to see the results of our work”.
