International Day of Peace 2019

Date: 21 September 2019

As we join the UN Youth Climate Summit, it’s important to remember that we also mark the International Day of Peace and this year’s theme is aptly aligned: Climate Action for Peace. Climate change not only endangers the Earth, but many of its inhabitant’s peaceful way of life. Spread of diseases, lack of water, and natural disasters can bring chaos and conflicts within countries and their communities.

This is why it is important to take climate action now as a means to protect and promote peace throughout the world. At YMCA, we are committed to advancing global conservation and responsibility to reduce the effects of climate change through youth-led education programmes and advocacy initiatives. Each of which aims to improve environmental awareness, civic engagement and advocacy at the local, national, regional and global levels.

We dedicate this day to our young people from all over the world who are gathering to share, discuss, debate and promote solutions for a greener and more peaceful world at their local YMCA + UN Youth Climate Summit Watch Party.
