Brief YMCA History
YMCA Romania has been founded in 1919 by Queen Mary of Romania and a group of YMCA americans secretaries. From the begining the association was the most important youth organization in the country developing programs like: sport, education, childs, schools. Between 1945 and 1990 YMCA was closed by the comunist autorities. In 1991 YMCA has been ‘opened’ legaly, starting to serve the comunity.
The Romanian YMCA is an ecumenical youth organisation which brings people together for mutual help and common Christian work. The organisation wants to be a member of the world wide YMCA family, fully respect the YMCA ideology, integrate with international structures, but also maintain the local heritage which gives the association original features.
