Olympics: YMCA High Performance coach – Shannon Rollason

Date: 08 August 2016

Shannon Rollason, High Performance Swimming Coach at the YMCA Gungahlin Leisure Centre in Canberra, has coached Jodie Henry to Olympic Gold, and trained Belinda Hocking and Matt Abood who will swim in the Rio Olympics 2016.

Shannon was the Head Coach of the National Training Centre (NTC) in Denmark, working with World Champion Jeanette Ottesen and Rikke Møller Pedersen, and has worked with the Australian Institute of Sport (Canberra). He is currently consulting with the Denmark national Olympic team in Rio, before coming back to work at the Y.

Kyle Chambers (on the photo) claimed his spot on the 2016 Team in Rio, following his standout performance in the men’s 100m freestyle (48.03). Last year in the World Championships in Kazan, Russia he achieved a 47.92 second leg in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay. He also raced in the 4x100m medley heats where he swam even faster (47.86sec) to guide that team to the final and the silver medal.

YMCA’s South Australia Aquatic & Leisure Centre (SAALC) are so proud of our staff and program with Australian Olympic Team members – with Kyle Chalmers and Josh Palmer both competing at Rio 2016. Enjoy Rio guys with YMCA High Performance Coach Peter Bishop!
