Ruth Toh’s journey with the YMCA is a testament to how the Change Agent programme unlocks leadership potential and multiplies impact. Today, she leads youth work at Metropolitan YMCA Singapore, where she focuses on mental wellness, leadership, and global citizenship. Alongside her professional role, Ruth is pursuing a Masters in Management at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, building on her earlier studies in digital marketing. She proudly carries forward her experience as a Change Agent (Cohort 5.0) by serving as a Coach for Cohort 6.0.
Looking back, Ruth describes the programme as “a window into the world.” Being part of a global network of young leaders gave her fresh insights into collaboration, evaluation, and innovation that she has been able to bring back and contextualize for Singapore. It also gave her access to senior YMCA leaders, whose guidance influenced her own career while equipping her to mentor the youth she now leads.
The ripple effects of her journey are already visible. Ruth led a regional youth leaders’ symposium in Singapore, bringing together young people from across Asia and the Pacific. She drew on the perspectives of her Change Agent peers to ensure the programme was relevant across diverse cultures and contexts. Her international friendships continue to open doors for collaboration and inspire new initiatives.
