YMCA Hong Kong’s Alternative Workforce and Guestrooms Initiative champions inclusive employment and social equity through two integrated projects. The “alternative workforce” model provides equitable job access to under-represented groups, including individuals with disabilities, those with special needs, older workers, and refugees, thereby fostering a more diverse and resilient workplace. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Guestrooms for Displaced Domestic Helpers” project supported over 100 vulnerable individuals, including a newborn, by providing emergency shelter, access to healthcare, and emotional support. They created a model of inclusive HR practices rooted in dignity and human rights, earning them the Elite Award in the Diversity & Inclusion NGO Category at the 2023/24 HR Excellence Awards hosted by the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management.
