In Northumberland County, many individuals recovering from addiction or facing mental health challenges struggle to find safe, affordable, and stigma-free spaces where they can rebuild their wellbeing after leaving emergency care.
UpTurn was launched in 2022 to fill this critical gap by providing free access to YMCA facilities, personalized wellness coaching, online health resources, and compassionate support from specially trained staff.
In 3 years, 300 people have participated in the programme, with many remaining engaged for months as they build healthier routines and stronger support networks. UpTurn is demonstrating that recovery thrives when people are met with dignity, connection, and opportunities to belong.
