Accelerator Summit

Mombasa, Kenya has been announced as the destination for the first global YMCA Accelerator
Summit in October 2024. 400 leaders committed to sustainable positive change in society will
convene to amplify and advance programmes and initiatives around the four pillars of YMCA
Vision 2030: ‘Community Wellbeing’, ‘Meaningful Work’, ‘Sustainable Planet’ and ‘Just World’.
This gathering will include YMCA young leaders, senior leaders, Change Agents, YMCA partner
organisations and leaders in YMCA partnerships.

Welcoming influential global thought leaders and showcasing stories of impact from around the
world, YMCA and partner organisations will come together for working sessions, networking
time, workshops and an expectation to take action beyond the event's closing session. The
Accelerator Summit will mark the mid-way point between the YMCA World Councils of 2022 and
2026.

“Every person who leaves the Accelerator Summit will take home ideas, inspiration and new
networks to drive forward and take action to advance our vision for a world where each of us
lives in harmony with self, with society and with creation,” said Carlos Sanvee, Secretary
General, World YMCA.

In Kenya 75% of the country’s population is under the age 25. As such, Mombasa is a significant
location choice for a Summit aimed at deepening intergenerational dialogue and innovation to
co-create a better future with young people. This builds on the work of previous global YMCA
gatherings including YMCA 175 in London in 2019, a series of Youth-Led Solutions Summits on
climate action, the future of work and mental health in 2020 and 2021, and the YMCA World
Council in Aarhus, Denmark in 2022. It will be an important milestone along the way to the 21st
YMCA World Council in Toronto in 2026 .

‘Ealy bird’ registration will open at the end of January 2024, running until Friday 19 April 2024.
The Accelerator Summit will take place at the Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort Spa and
Convention Centre, in Mombasa, Kenya from 21-26 October 2024.
