Sri Lanka – Emergency Relief Appeal

Date: 09 January 2019

Dear Friends,

You have certainly heard in the news the situation in Sri Lanka.

There have been torrential rains for two weeks during the Christmas period which have now resulted in devastating floods in the Northern part of Sri Lanka.

According to our YMCA colleagues, more than 125,000 people from nearly 40,000 families have been affected due to the heavy rains and floods in all the five districts of the Northern Province. The most affected districts are Mullaithivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya and Jaffna.

We have received an appeal from the National Council of the Sri Lanka YMCA and the Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs to support the YMCA in providing assistance to the most severely affected people.

The intent is to supply the victims with clothes, medicines, water bottles and dry rations through member YMCAs.  In addition, it is planned to support 1000 students with school bags and stationery.

The total estimated amount needed for emergency support is USD 31,000.

The World Alliance of YMCAs is joining its voice to those of APAY and YMCA Sri Lanka to invite you to support the efforts of the YMCA in reaching out to the victims.

You can send your support to the following bank details:
