World YMCA talks youth empowerment at Dreamforce 2019

Date: 22 November 2019

World YMCA Secretary General Carlos Madjri Sanvee was invited to Salesforce’s premier event, Dreamforce. Running from 19-22 November, this four-day conference brings together inspiring keynotes from people like former President of the United States Barack Obama and Apple CEO Tim Cook with sessions and panels from some of the world’s leaders in technology and philanthropy.

During Dreamforce, Sanvee had the opportunity to discuss YMCA’s work in creating safe spaces to empower young people across the globe. First, he joined the Global Officials Panel entitled Improving the State of the World Starts with Trust alongside world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, UN Secretary-General’s Advocate for the SDGs Eddie Ndopu, and South African radio and television presenter Tumelo Mothotoane. Sanvee shared how YMCA is using its spaces all around the world to create safe environments where young people from all backgrounds and walks of life can build trust within each other.

The following day, Sanvee discussed how the Movement is beginning to record its impact on the SDGs through its key impact areas of health, environment, employment, civic engagement and inclusion. But the highlight of the event came later when he moderated a discussion with two inspiring young climate activists, Alexandria Villasenor and Xiuhtezecatl Martinez, in a panel entitled From Protests to Policy: Youth Demand Climate Action.
