While there were YMCA activities in the region during the First World War, an independent YMCA Czechoslovak was founded in 1921. In 1922, YMCA Czechoslovakia was accepted as a full member of the World Alliance of YMCAs. However, in 1948, YMCAs in the region were banned by the Communist regime. The YMCA was re-established in 1990. After the split of Czechoslovakia in 1992, the YMCA Czech Republic was officially founded. Today, it has 28 local associations with approximately 3,600 members. Still a member of the World Alliance of YMCAs, YMCA Czech Republic is also a member of YMCA Europe.
