The KIE, or the Keresztyén Ifjúsági Egyesület (Christian Youth Association), was established under the leadership of Aladár Szilassy, a young theologian, in Budapest on October 31, 1883. Its origins can be traced back to the 1880s when the theologian Aladár Szabó became acquainted with the Scottish Mission. Together with other theologians, they began organizing Sunday schools. Around the same time, a movement to establish the KIE started, and even Charles Fermaud, the Secretary General of the World Alliance, visited Budapest in October 1883 to support the cause. Following several lectures, the KIE was officially founded, with Aladár Szilassy as the president. Aladár Szabó and Aladár Plichta assumed the roles of the first National Secretaries. The KIE, after its establishment, played a significant role in society by fulfilling its mission, especially among craftsmen and rural migrants who had moved to the capital city in the early 20th Century.
