YMCA Bangladesh

Date of foundation of the YMCA:

1965

YMCA Bangladesh was formed in 1965 in Dhaka. After the country became independent in 1971, several other local YMCAs were officially established. The National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh was formed in 1974 and later gained full member status with the World Alliance of YMCAs in 1977. YMCA in Dhaka began as an educational service for children and those living in poverty, adult functional education and literacy training, and vocational training for the unemployed. Today, the services still include educational programmes, but expanded to non-formal primary education, and English language courses. The house also includes conference and meeting rooms, guest houses, and a cybercafé.
