YMCA Colombia

Date of foundation of the YMCA: 

1964

In 1964, 43 individuals met to form the Colombian Youth Christian Association in Bogota. The first programmes emphasized physical education, recreation, and camping. Since then, local YMCAs were established in Medellin in 1973, Cali in 1984, Guayabal-Lerida in 1985, Barranquilla in 1985, Ibague in 1987, Puerto Boyaca in 1988, Dosquebradas in 1990, Leticia in 1994, and Santander in 1994. The Colombia Federation of YMCAs was formed in 1976. YMCA Colombia was then admitted to the World Alliance of YMCAs in 1977. The Association in Colombia has 9 legally constituted YMCAs and offices in 13 different cities. YMCA Colombia focuses on programmes towards prevention, rehabilitation, and leadership and protection.
