The YMCA was first established in Hong Kong in 1901.

The Council of YMCAs of Hong Kong was established in 1961 to act as a coordinating body of the two constituent local YMCAs, the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong and YMCA of Hong Kong. The Council is also the body affiliated with both the World YMCA and the Asia Pacific Alliance of YMCAs: it is responsible for fostering the growth of the YMCA Movement in Hong Kong and throughout the Asia Pacific region, and for participating in international YMCA affairs.
