YMCA Nigeria

Date of foundation of the YMCA:

1925

The first YMCA-organized group was formed in the city of Kano in 1925. The Lagos YMCA Central Club, which later developed into the Lagos YMCA, was formed in 1944. The YMCA programs focus on empowering youth, promoting gender sensitivity, alleviating poverty, developing leadership skills, providing political and civic education, and building self-reliance. It organizes youth camps at local, national, and international levels and offers leadership training to prepare young people for YMCA and community leadership roles. Vocational training centres are available for various professions, and a committee is dedicated to gender issues, aiming to enhance the participation and leadership of women.
