YMCA Senegal

Date of foundation of the YMCA:

1982

YMCA Senegal was established in 1982 by former Minister Robert Sagna, who was inspired by the impact of the YMCA during a trip to the United States. With support from US partners, the YMCA Senegal became recognized as an NGO in June 1983. It began its youth development work by opening a training center in Dakar, where young people received business training. The YMCA’s success led to the creation of regional representations in Thiès and Ziguinchor to reach more young people. The organization focuses on education, training, health, entrepreneurship, environmental initiatives, sports, and supporting peace efforts in Casamance.
