YMCA Trinidad & Tobago

Date of foundation of the YMCA:

1921

The YMCA of Trinidad and Tobago dates back to 1921. Initially established in Port of Spain by a British minister, it faced a period of inactivity during the Great Depression. In 1954, young businessmen formed Y’s Men’s Clubs to cater to the needs of young people. With support from YMCAs in the United Kingdom and the World Alliance, YMCA branches were established in San Fernando, Port of Spain, and Tobago. The YMCA focuses on youth and children through various programs such as youth outreach, leadership training, community empowerment, early childhood care, aquatics, recreational activities, cultural activities, and vocational training.
